Bitcoin Day FAQ
Bitcoin Day is a celebration of bitcoin hosted by Cash App, Square, and Bitkey. Running from April 6 through April 10, 2026, Cash App is giving away $1 million in bitcoin through instant giveaways. When you buy, spend, or withdraw bitcoin during the promotion period, you earn free bitcoin deposited directly into your Cash App balance.
Bitcoin Day goes live on Monday, April 6, 2026, at 9:00 AM ET and ends on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 8:00 PM ET, or while supplies last.
How the Instant Giveaway Works
There are three ways to earn free bitcoin during Bitcoin Day. Each action earns you an instant bonus:

No. Bitcoin Day is an instant giveaway, not a lottery or drawing. Every eligible customer who completes a qualifying action receives their bitcoin bonus immediately, while supplies last; no luck involved, no waiting for a winner announcement.
Instantly. Your bonus is deposited directly into your Cash App bitcoin balance as soon as you complete each qualifying action.
Yes. You can complete all three actions (Buy, Spend, Own) and earn a bonus for each – up to three total bonuses per customer. Each action is capped at one bonus per customer or $80 total per customer.
The promotion ends when the full $1 million in bitcoin has been distributed or at 8:00 PM ET on April 10, 2026, whichever comes first. We encourage you to act early; once the faucet runs dry, it's done.
Eligibility
To participate, you must: (1) have a valid address located within the United States, (2) have a Cash App account in good standing, (3) be 18 years of age or older (or the age of majority in your state, if higher), and (4) have verified your identity on Cash App (KYC completed).
New York residents can participate in the Buy action on Cash App. However, the Spend action (Square Bitcoin payments) and the Own action (Bitkey withdrawal) are not available to New York State customers due to regulatory requirements.
Action 1: Buy Bitcoin on Cash App
Open Cash App, tap on Bitcoin, and purchase at least $10 worth of bitcoin during the promotion period (April 6–10). Your bonus will be deposited into your bitcoin balance instantly.
There is no maximum purchase amount, but the bonus is the same regardless of how much you buy. The minimum qualifying purchase is $10.
Yes. This is a new purchase promotion, you just need to make a qualifying bitcoin purchase of $10 or more during the April 6–10 window, regardless of your existing bitcoin balance.
Action 2: Spend Bitcoin at Square Sellers
Pay with bitcoin at a participating Square seller using Cash App. The minimum qualifying spend is $1.
Open Cash App and navigate to the Bitcoin Map at cash.app/launch/bitcoin/map. This shows Square sellers in your area that accept bitcoin payments via Lightning Network.
No. Square Bitcoin Payments and Lightning Network are not available to New York State residents. You can still earn a bonus through the Buy action on Cash App.
Action 3: Own Bitcoin with Bitkey
Open the Bitkey app and withdraw (or buy) bitcoin from your Cash App balance to your Bitkey wallet. The bonus is earned by completing the withdrawal, purchasing a Bitkey device alone does not qualify.
Bitkey is a self-custody bitcoin wallet made by Block, Inc. It lets you hold and secure your own bitcoin; meaning you control the private keys, not a third party. Self-custody is the final step in truly owning your bitcoin.
Yes, you need a Bitkey device to complete the Own action. If you don't have one yet, you can order for $99 at bitkey.world. Keep in mind the promotion runs April 6–10, so plan ahead if you want to complete all three actions. Important: ordering or receiving a Bitkey usually takes up to 3-4 days to deliver in the U.S. and does not earn the bonus, you must complete a bitcoin withdrawal or buy bitcoin from Cash App through the Bitkey app during the promotion window.
Tax & Legal
Bitcoin bonuses you receive may be considered taxable income. Please consult your tax advisor regarding any tax obligations. Cash App will provide necessary tax documentation as required by law.
Yes. Bitcoin is a non-deposit, non-bank product that is not FDIC insured and involves risk, including monetary loss. Bitcoin's value can change rapidly, which means the dollar amount of bitcoin needed for a purchase, or the amount made from a product sale on Square, may vary. Bitcoin transactions are generally irreversible, and all payment details should be carefully verified before confirming any transaction.

Troubleshooting
First, verify that your transaction met the minimum requirements ($10 buy, $1 spend at Square, or withdrawal/buy from Cash App through the Bitkey app) and was completed during the promotion period (April 6–10).
Confirm your Cash App account is in good standing and identity verification is complete.
If everything checks out and you still haven't received your bonus, contact Cash App support in the app or by calling +1 (800) 969-1940.
Note: the promotion may have ended if the $1M was fully distributed before you took an action.
You need a Cash App account to participate. Download Cash App, complete identity verification (KYC), and you'll be eligible to participate during the promotion window.
No. Bitcoin Day is available only to individuals in the U.S.
No. Only qualifying actions completed during the promotion period (April 6–10, 2026) are eligible for bonuses.
